Western Adventure: Day 10

Woke up and headed to Oakland today. Drove for the first time and in while, felt weird. It’s definitely a lot different driving out here. Everything in Orlando is flat so having to drive through the mountains caught me off guard at first. But once we got moving it was smooth sailing until we got close to Oakland and hit a little traffic. But it wasn’t that bad compared to what I witnessed in LA. Scenery wise, nothing but the desert, wind turbines and mountains. Nothing special.

Finally caught up on my post. Spent the 2nd half of my ride writing and uploading pics. Mostly the latter. It’s amazing what you can do with just a phone these days.

Once we got settled in it was kinda late, so I just went out and walked around Oakland for a little bit. I was also able to reconnect with an old buddy who showed me a few places and took me this amazing food truck who had the best tacos. Before I head back, I wanna stop by there and grab more.

Haven’t made any post recently other than verses that God has placed on my heart. I’ve really only limited to my other words to my journal and a select group of people.  And that may be good for a season b/c it allowed me to have some really quiet, intimate time with Him.  But as I shared with a brother earlier, I’ve really been feeling a tugging in my spirit to longer stay quiet.  To speak up and use the platform that God has given me.  In this time I feel like He’s really been equipping me with the neccessary tools and maturing me.  We are in battles daily against the devil and our flesh, but there is something much bigger approaching us that we must get ready for.  And we need to lean on God more for wisdom, strength, peace and discernment against what’s to come. And Paul says it no better in Ephesians 6:10-18,

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God,so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

We must all be ready. The day is coming! And my plea and challenge to all of us is to step up and step out of our comfort zones and be willing to share the good news! And be the light that we are called to be. May God be with you all. With love and grace. -Alan

Why I Blog?

Ever been asked questions but don’t really know how to answer it so you just say whatever comes to mind and think to yourself “what did I even say?” Or pretty much KNOW that what you said made absolutely sense to them but perfect sense to me. Well welcome to my life.

The G/F asked why I blog or what’s the purpose. And I rambled on for a few minutes about people wanting to express themselves and their thoughts. Used their platform to persuade people one way or another. Pretty sure that I even referenced back to a Devitional that I do by Tony Dungy titled The One Year Uncommon Life Daily Challenge. (which I strongly recommend to Christian men who love sports. )

But the reason that I blog especially in the past is b/c it’s fun. It’s another way to be free and connect with a wide range of people who have similar interest. Unlike social networking sites you aren’t confined to a layout. Every single detail is an expression of you. But don’t get me wrong, I think social networking is cool and continues to grow in a variety of ways. There is just something about having your own place to go and be free, whether you have 1 follower and 1 million.
